Victoria Wren

App developer and technical QA. I build software, test it thoroughly, and write the tools that hold it together, most recently on Unity mobile games at Kano.

About

I'm a tech generalist with a background in software development, QA, automation, web technologies and game development.

I like learning unfamiliar systems, solving problems, and figuring out how different pieces of technology fit together. I'm comfortable moving between coding, testing, debugging, tooling and collaboration, and I do my best work in roles where I get to wear multiple hats.

Curious, adaptable and technically minded, with a practical approach to getting things done.

On AI

I learned to code before AI. Now I build with it every day.

AI is part of how I work

I use AI tools throughout my projects and day-to-day work, and I enjoy it. They help me move faster, try ideas I wouldn't have had time for, and keep my code in line with modern standards. It's one of the most exciting shifts I've seen in this industry.

Grounded in fundamentals

I taught myself web development through The Odin Project in 2020, before AI coding tools went mainstream. Knowing how to read docs, debug by hand and understand why code works is what lets me get real value out of AI, and as a QA engineer I test and own everything I ship.

A fan of the tech, not the companies

I'm not a fan of the ethics of many of the companies behind these products. I think it's worth being clear-eyed about that, and it doesn't change how useful the technology is or how much I like working with it.

Recommendations

I have worked with much more seasoned developers that didn't pay nearly as much attention to the design details as Victoria does. She has a true talent and eye for it.

She picks up new skills extremely quickly and can thrive with minimal direction but can also gracefully take feedback when it comes up.
